MEAN WELL medical power supplies and adapters for medical devices: GSM desktop and wall adapters, RPS and RPSG open-frame supplies, MPM and MFM modules, MPS, RPD, RPT, MPT and MPQ supplies, and MDS and MDD medical DC-DC converters. Every model of these series in our catalog is listed below. Models with a Request a quote button have no stock right now; send us the model and quantity for a quote and lead time.
A medical grade supply is evaluated to IEC 60601-1 (ANSI/AAMI ES60601-1 in the US) instead of the IT standard IEC 62368-1. The main differences are stronger isolation, measured in Means of Patient Protection (MOPP), and lower leakage current limits, because the device may touch a patient.
GSM adapters are external supplies for medical devices. Per their datasheets: GSM06E, GSM12E and GSM18B list EN 60601-1 or ES60601-1 plus the 60601-1-11 home healthcare standard, with 2 × MOPP primary-secondary and touch current below 50 µA (GSM06E, GSM18B) or 100 µA (GSM12E). GSM90A and GSM120A list IEC 60601-1 and ANSI/AAMI ES60601-1 with 2 × MOPP primary-secondary.
All GSM families listed here show ES60601-1 or IEC 60601-1 on their datasheet; 2 × MOPP and 60601-1-11 vary by family, so check the datasheet of the model you choose.
RPS open-frame supplies from 30 W to 500 W and RPSG-160: their specs list IEC 60601-1 or ANSI/AAMI ES60601-1 with 2 × MOPP primary-secondary. The RPS-30, RPS-45 and RPS-75 datasheets add "suitable for BF application with appropriate system consideration". Wattage and cooling vary by model; check the datasheet.
MPM and MFM encapsulated modules mount on the PCB of the device. Their datasheets list IEC 60601-1 with 2 × MOPP and BF application suitability.
MPS single-output supplies and RPD, RPT, MPT and MPQ multiple-output supplies for devices that need several rails from one unit. Their datasheets list IEC 60601-1; MPS-30, MPS-45, MPS-65, RPD, RPT, MPT and MPQ also list 2 × MOPP primary-secondary.
MDS (single output) and MDD (dual output) converters isolate a DC stage inside the device. MDS15 and MDS20 datasheets list IEC 60601-1 3rd edition; the MDS01 to MDS06 and MDD specs list 2 × MOPP to IEC 60601-1. The letter after the wattage sets the input range; check the datasheet.
IEC 60601-1-11 covers devices used at home. Among the adapters on this page, the GSM06E, GSM12E and GSM18B datasheets list it (GSM12E05-USB excepted).
BF and CF are applied-part classifications for the finished device, not for the power supply alone. The MPM, RPD, RPT and RPS-30 to RPS-75 datasheets say they are suitable for BF applications with appropriate system consideration. None of the datasheets we checked claims CF.
IEC 60601-1 is the main safety standard for medical electrical equipment (ANSI/AAMI ES60601-1 in the US). If your device is a medical electrical device, its power supply normally needs to meet it, or be evaluated as part of the device.
MOPP (Means of Patient Protection) is the stricter isolation level for parts that can reach the patient; MOOP (Means of Operator Protection) is for operators only. Supplies for patient-connected devices typically need 2 × MOPP. The GSM, RPS, MPM, MPS, RPD, RPT, MPT and MPQ datasheets list 2 × MOPP primary-secondary.
Usually not without extra measures. ITE supplies are evaluated to IEC 62368-1 and do not provide the isolation and leakage limits of IEC 60601-1, so the device would need additional isolation and testing.
IEC 60601-1 sets limits for touch, earth and patient leakage current that depend on the applied part type. Each MEAN WELL datasheet lists its measured maximums, for example touch current below 100 µA on the MPM-90, below 70 µA on the RPS-400 and below 50 µA on the GSM18B.
Look for IEC 60601-1-11 on the datasheet. On this page, the GSM18B datasheet lists ANSI/AAMI HA60601-1-11 and CSA 60601-1-11, and the GSM06E and GSM12E datasheets list EN 60601-1-11.
